Success Story - Shafreya

Shafreya was one of nine students who recently completed LAUNCH’s work readiness class. The curriculum’s focus is to help individuals develop soft skills that are necessary for successful employment. Crucial soft skills include; communication, professionalism, teamwork, enthusiasm and problem-solving. These have been identified as some of the main reasons job seekers have difficulty obtaining and maintaining employment.

Shafreya was an extremely engaged and enthusiastic student. She expressed many times how much she liked the class and felt it was going to help her with her upcoming job search. In particular, she was nervous about interviews and felt the practice in class helped her gain self-confidence with these skills. The next step for Shafreya is to participate in LAUNCH’ supported employment program. She will work one-on-one with an Employment Consultant to find a job that matches her skills and interests.

LAUNCH is currently conducting work readiness classes at Corcoran and Fowler High Schools and will then move on to Nottingham and Henninger.  The schools and teachers see the value in having their students attend our work readiness class to increase their students’ knowledge of soft skills with the ultimate goal of obtaining a summer job.

Shafreya shared with us her experience in the work readiness class:

“My favorite part was meeting new people. I learned how to talk in an interview and what is okay to say. I learned how to work as a team and ask team members for help when I need help with a task. I learned how to listen to constructive criticism and I learned that I would like to work in a group environment with other people. “

Congratulations Shafreya on completing work readiness and we wish you success with your job search!
